I am currently hosted with Siteground with a v.2.0.22 phpbb forum at the link shown below.

http://yourmodelrailway.com/index.php

I have also been playing with the 30 day off wowultra board here.

http://barchester.wowultra.com/

If I purchase wowultra and become hosted by Data 1 can you transfer my present board to wowultra?. I think the only mod that has been carried out on it is a useless portal which I would be glad to see the back of anyway. If it can be transferred how much of it would I lose, if anything? It is phpbb v.2.0.22 by the way. Is wowultra v.3?

Could I also keep my 'yourmodelrailway.com'?

Hi Robert,

Thank you for your interest in WowUltra!

(my 4 yr old son would fall in love with your site, he is so into trains at the moment)

Unfortunately, we do not have a converter for any other software except WowBB at this time. We are sorry about that. Jim plans on redoing the converter so that we will be able to convert other software in the future but at the moment, its not possible.

If you own the domain yourmodelrailway.com, then yes, you can keep it if you were to be hosted by us. If you have control of your nameserver, it would just be a matter of pointing your nameserver to ours. If not, we would need to transfer the domain from your current registrar to us in order to point the nameservers to data1systems.

The current version of WowUltra is 1.15. When we release the new version (which we hope to do in about a month, give or take), it will then be v1.17

Di

Nice to hear about your son and I only wish model railways were as popular here as they are in the USA.
That's real blow about not being able to use wowultra as it's certainly the best software I have seen out there for my purposes.
Would it be possible to upload a data dump into the wowultra forum perhaps? I'm grasping at straws here as you can probably tell.
If there is no way at all that I can rescue the data then do you know if it would be possible to have the forum hosted on Data 1 as is? At least then there would be backups for all the valuable information that the forum holds.
In the past I have copied and pasted from one forum to another in desparation but now the amount of data is just too large.

As for a data dump, it might be possible. Jim would have to look into it.  His lunch hour starts in about 30  minutes so Ill have him take a look.

Even if you do not switch software to Ultra, we can still host your forum for you. :)

Possible, notice I have left out the 'might'. I am a perpetual optimist and have faith.
So you could transfer the whole forum as is to Data 1 and the membership wouldn't know the difference?

we would need to shut down the site for about an hour (depending on the size of your database) while we make the transfer

For managing the site, apart from the Admin control panel, I presume I would have access to a cPanel or similar on Data 1?

That's a nice forum Robert. 28,000 posts from 86 members is very impressive.

Yes, they are a great bunch of guys too and I would hate to let them down. We have previously had free forums with free hosting but after major crashes where all was lost I got fed up with it. I am with Siteground now but I hadn't realised that they don't do backups and the system doesn't seem to work for me through cPanel or the forum control panel. They have suggested all kinds of work round but so far nothing doing and I just have to have the information backed up.

Hi Robert,

At Data 1 your entire files and database are backed up daily, weekly and monthly. If you realize 2 days later you messed something up horribly we can restore from the weekly.

I haven't looked in to the dump lately and would need a valid phpBB database to play with.

I do know the user, category, forum and post tables could be converted but the permissions are so different.  This is a recurring request and I will look in to it this weekend.

From my point of view it's obviously the members post data that is important. Things like permissions, banned addresses, private messages etc are not important.
It's a pleasure posting here to get such quick and positive responses. I will hang fire for now then and keep referring back to this topic.

Robert. Fantastic to see you and that you are considering becoming part of the ULTRA family. I look forward to hearing more about your site and hopefully your move to Ultra! :)

Yeah, I'm hoping so too. Looking round this board and reading the posts there doesn't seem much that Jim can't do so I'm living in high hopes that he will be able to do something for me. I'm trying out the 30 day offer and I can tell now that I am going to be most reluctant to let it go.
Fingers crossed eh.

Jim will definitely try his best and come up with a solution for you by the end of the weekend :)

I'm a bit long in the tooth to expect miracles but I feel much better about things than I did a few hours ago.
