It is called "High Hopes" Di by Frank Sinatra lol. Hang on Robert, if Jim can possibly help you he will do. You won't get service anywhere else that you will get from Jim and Di.

Robert wrote: I am currently hosted with Siteground with a v.2.0.22 phpbb forum at the link shown below. Hi Robert, I'm also running a model railway board using WowUltra, to support users of my track software: http://www.templot.com/forum So I've registered on yours! There is a possible migration route you could use but it would be a bit more expensive as it means paying twice! WowBB forum software includes a migration option from phpBB 2.0.x in the installation. WowUltra is derived from WowBB, so if you first converted to a WowBB board, it would then be easy for Jim to convert you to WowUltra. It might not be necessary to go live on WowBB before converting to WowUltra. WowBB is at http://www.wowbb.com . The note about php migration is at: http://www.wowbb.com/faq.php#1.8 (it won't include everything from your existing board, though -- just the users and topics). Several users here are ex-WowBB. I'm very pleased to have made the switch. There's history here, so I will leave it to Jim to expand on the above if he wishes. regards, Martin.

wingnutter wrote: That's a nice forum Robert. 28,000 posts from 86 members is very impressive. Hi Steve, One reason for that high ratio (over 300 posts on average per member!) is that Robert doesn't allow lurkers. If you don't post within 7 days of joining you are removed. It seems a bit draconian, but it has certainly resulted in an active community feeling on there (I've just joined). It would be interesting to know how the membership figures of several other forums would change if a similar policy was adopted. regards, Martin.

They had the say on all aspects of the forum, on what went in and what got cut when I set it up. It's run purely for the benefit of the members, hence the title, Your Model Railway. That's a nice forum Robert. 28,000 posts from 86 members is very impressive.

It seems a bit draconian, but it has certainly resulted in an active community feeling on there (I've just joined). I have been doing this since early this year Martin. If they don't make a post within 24 hours I delete them and there is a warning on the registration page about this. I also send them a PM letting them know when the next cull of non-posters will take place. I can't say for sure if it has increased the numbers of people registering, I mean people will lurk regardless if they can read the posts. But it has increased the numbers of newbies actually posting regularly. Once they make an introduction post, what happens is that lots of the regular members welcome them and that gets the newbies involved. So it's a good thing. I have to add that since Jim moved my forum over to his servers here and upgraded to Ultra, the number of new daily registrations has at least doubled. Similar story for the daily post counts (about 40% up) and number of members online (up about 35%) at any given time. But that's all because the servers here are more stable and can be accessed from anywhere in the world. No more problems with the forum bogging down with 80 members online or people in Australia, Japan etc. getting the 404 error page of death when they visit.

We have a policy of deliberately keeping numbers down to where members can get to know each other. That's why if anyone does find us on the internet all they see is the header and footer of the forum, not what's on offer.

UPDATE First off some history. The old Wow system had a routine for using a phpBB database. Well that's exactly what it did, it added a few fields to the phpBB database and just used it. Sounds good eh? Well reality is it made certain things react differently since it used a different filesystem. Not a true wow database just band aids and chicken wire though I applaud the gallant effort by the creator. Ultra decided not to use this system because we have added so much to the database as far as fields go that the phpBB routine would have had to be re written with all the additions that Ultra sported. It still would have been a "patch" and unpredictable. The only REAL solution we feel is to convert the data to a full ultra format. As of tonight I have a converter that will convert categories and forums to Ultra format... 100%. It isn't easy and when it is done I hope we can gain customers from it.

Depends on who holds the domain name and the red tape surrounding that, also the REAL access we have to the database at your current host. If you want to start exchanging PM's so we can start looking at more sensitive info that is fine.

If it's as successful as we all hope it is Di then perhaps the late nights have only just started when all the phpbb customers start rolling in.
