Tell me why I should buy your software, instead of WowClassic?

I currently use wowBB 1.7, but am considering an upgrade.  So tell me why you're better!  :)

Hi LisaLisa,

Better is always in the eye of the beholder, and even if you want to stick with WowBB there will be an upgrade to that soon.

Both packages have added massive features beyond the regular WowBB package. Being I have never used Classic I can only give a couple observations and will only provide opinions on things I actually know about.

Classic is more graphically intense on first look. Ultra is not trying to follow classic, we are chasing other major bulletin board companies with our features and leaving the look to the aftermarket which has done wonders.

Ultra is leaner, pulls MANY less sql queries and generally does better in benchmarks like W3C validation tests. We have adjustable side menu options out of the box, at last look removing the side box with Classic was a mod.

There are a lot of "WowBB" things we have concentrated on fixing, we put as much weight on repairing the current code structure as new features. A good example is being able to delete attachments in custom user profiles. There are a dozen or so other little problems that have been taken care of. Classic might have cured some of these also, I do not know but have not read of it being solved.

Classic relies on third party coders to write the modifications. Though this is not nessecarily "bad" it is my belief that Ultra has had a great respect for the original coding style started by Aycan. Every line of code so far in Ultra was added by me. Ideas come from several sources but are all assembled by one human. In the rare event a bug is found, if it is critical it is taken care of that day. If it is a simple annoyance it is taken care of in the next release which is always free if you own a license. Read a while some of the posts from our members and you will know where we are coming from.

As always it is a matter of personal preference and what features you need to support your particular style of members.

Here are two pages with the bulk of the new features:
http://wowultra.com/features.php
http://wowultra.com/115.php

Thank you for considering WowUltra!

Jim

Hi LisaLisa I can't comment on WowClassic, but I can say that I have never for one minute regretted moving from Wowbb to Ultra.

Hi LisaLisa and welcome. It's nice to see another WOW survivor here even if it's just to drop by for a chat. Most of us here upgraded form WOW and can attest to the super support and great job Jim has done on Ultra. I can't comment on WOWClassic as I didn't try it, I'm sure it's also a great program but I won't try to influence you as it's your decision.
I personally opted for Ultra because I knew Jim worked for private support at WOW and he was very good at it, there was nothing he wasn't able to fix when we had problems so I suspectd thet he knew what he was talking about.
Jim doesn't try to coax people over here and he tends to be modest about Ultra, but almost two months here sees me very happy indeed.

Thanks for your honest input!

I have heard that wowBB is planning an upgrade, but I heard that it's a hot mess, and nothing like 1.7. I have a large board, and our members really like the format of 1.7.

If we do switch to your software, would we lose all of out existing posts and have to start over, or could that all be moved to the new software. (You'll have to excuse me, I'm technologically lame!)

All info is retained no problem. You will be able afterward to see all the members that have registered and not activated, delete them or activate them, and will have no more spam registrations.

Nothing lost, a lot gained.:)

Yes the new version of WOW was a real turnoff for me Lisa. I was one of the people using the test/beta and it looked so alien that I lost interest immediately and couldn't take to it at all.

You won't lose any posts or other information here and all your current members profiles and accounts will stay the same, with some improvements. Jim can set up an Ultra testing forum here (free) for you to play with if you want one. Everything will be so familiar to the WOW you have now, you will feel at home straight away.

I had wow 1.7 and thought it was great. When I switched to Ultra it took my site to a level I could not have imagined. All my expectations have been exceeded. My group says the same thing. I even had a recent surge in premium (paid) membership.

The service and results are head and shoulders above anything I have experienced. Due to the high level of service I even switched my hosting over to Data1 even though I still had several months left all paid for. Still worth it

A potential concern with Classic may be that it appears that you cannot do a trial board like you can here... (unless I'm missing something). The trial board was one of my favorite things about Ultra - I was able to play around and make sure that I liked the software before I committed to the big bucks.

Hi LisaLisa,

I have also upgraded from WowBB 1.7 to WowUltra.

It's a no-brainer. Look on the web sites for a postal address.

Nothing on WowBB, but a Whois search reveals that WowBB is based in Turkey.

Nothing on WowClassic, and the domain is registered by proxy. It could be anywhere in the world, probably in the far east.

Look on WowUltra, and with a bit of searching you eventually find:  Data 1 Systems, P.O. Box 822, Grove City, Ohio 43123, USA

Decision made. Would you pay money to someone without having the faintest idea where they are?

And I've been very pleased with my decision. Eliminating hundreds of spambot registrations was alone worth the upgrade price to WowUltra. Everything else is a bonus. Not least the fantastic level of support Jim and Di are providing on here. :)

regards,

Martin.

If it's a good product, then sure.  Especially on the web, I'm not sure location matters.  JMO. ;)

I came to Ultra From Wow 1.7, Started with a trial Board and Jim Spent most of one Sunday Afternoon Moving My 1.7 Board over into the Ultra trial Board. I was immediately impressed with a guy who didn't want any money at the moment and was willing to put his time into a "Maybe" Deal. That Maybe Deal has turned into two licenses and a couple of more Hosting sites. The Customer Service can't be beat. Nobody else out there has the pride and dedication to their product as Jim and Di Hale. In Addition to being really satisfied , I have gained a couple of Friends,  for whom I have the utmost respect.

Edited To Add:

The User Activation Mod That Jim has in Ultra Should be enough to convince anyone, That Ultra is the only way to go, But a Couple of months ago he came up with the 1.15 update, Which is Fantastic and now he is already talking about updating again to Version 1.17, All Of Which, costs no more than the original $99.

He has Developed a Portal Mod and Stated up Front that this will cost extra, Knowing Him, It will be a fair and reasonable price, That I will Gladly pay.

I didn't realize you'd came from WOW Classic John. Were you on WOW before that?

welcome to Ultra, Lisa :)

PM me if you would like to be moved to the license holder group where license holders can discuss with Jim and I the software and features they would like to see in future releases :)

You can also download other themes for Ultra as well :)

It's my experience, over 5 forums, that support is the number one priority, and I have never before experienced the level of support as there is here. The WowUltra Admin panel is also the best I have seen and used, so good in fact that probably the majority of users will never have to venture into the cpanel to do other things, which suits me fine. Great forum software, great support, can't ask for more.

Sorry About The Typo's, Was Thinking That 1.7 was The Classic Version and realized that Somebody else had that. Was only on 1.7 for less than a month before I realized I had made a mistake.
