Some people want Recent Posts.

Some people prefer Posts Since Last Visit.

But what we really want is Unread Posts. Regardless of when they were posted. Please can we have this in the new upgrade?

We don't want Recent posts we have already read. We don't want to lose posts we didn't read last visit. We just want ALL the posts we haven't yet read. The software knows this. So PLEASE can we have a list? Thank you.

donegal, I joined & read your post.

Firstly what you are asking is for what forum? WowUltra or other forums? Other forums using Wow may not need that.

Why can't the 3 options be presented? Or is that too hard for the software?

Sol

yes, I am also curious as to which forum you have :)

It has to be coded in. All the extras we have provided in the software thus far have ALL been coded in by Jim. Any future features for the software has to be coded in. All of these things take time.  It is not possible to just add a line of code and expect it to work. One routine could cancel out a different routine.

Jim and I try real hard to try and incorporate alot of the members suggestions into the software. We already have our list plotted out for the features for the new version. If Jim comes across the area in the code and if it can be incorporated, then he will try and add it. If it doesnt make it in the new version, we will try and get it in in a future version.

Again, thank you for the suggestion :)

btw...welcome Sol. Its always nice to see a new face around here :)

Thanks Di for your comments.

I am a member of the YourModelRailway which has converted from phpBB & of course finding things a bit different between the 2 Forums.  No doubt all WoW forums have similarities & differences & in time I suspect the YMR forum will get sorted out. Any request for changes of course will come via Robert.

Hi Di,

I think donegal is asking for it to be a standard feature of the software, rather than for any particular forum.

We already have Selected, Popular and Recent topics lists. Another one for "only topics containing unread posts" does seem a very sensible and useful suggestion. It might have to have a time limit, say topics from the last month only. It is probably needed only at the top level -- repeating it within each forum as the other list options do would be overkill, I think.

I know how much work has to go into coding new features, but on the face of it this doesn't look too difficult. We already have a Recent function which can differentiate between read and unread posts on the icons.

Duplicate that function, increase the time limit, ignore read posts, and there you have it. Done! :)

If only it was that simple. But it does seem a very good suggestion, nevertheless. I'm inclined to have a go at a mod for my own forum.

regards,

Martin.

were you originally a phpbb board? these are regular phpbb features you speak of and if you converted then i am sure some of your members were used to using that option.

Yes it's the phpbb conversion where things were slightly different but not problematically so. Different place, different design. As Jim progresses with his updates I'm sure there will be satisfaction all round. In the mean time things are pretty good I would say.
