I've been a part of the Wowbb community for some time now. I've been on there since the early stages and watched it grow. I still love the platform and I have nothing but good things to say about Wowbb version 1.7 With that being said, I wasn't really impressed with the Beta of the new version of Wowbb. They borrowed a lot of concepts from Vanilla forums and they did add the buddy list like I wanted, but the whole platform seems to be-- "Not yet ready for Prime Time" The navigation is obscure and the functionality seems to be based more on flash then substance. So I'm thinking that it has come time for me to consider very seriously to leave Wowbb behind and move to Wow Ultra. The sub-forums seem to be a wildly popular feature and I like the different group and user colors. I am hoping that the transistion will allow me to keep the the flavor that my users want, without sacrificing a stagnant development process filled with abject failures--I was so let down by the disappearance of Wowpublish.... Anyway, I'll be looking to change over in the next few weeks to this platform. I'll let you guys know how it goes.

Thank you for your interest in WowUltra, I am sorry you are disappointed with WowBB but I feel it will be popular... just not for everyone. Glad to have you on board, some of your suggestions in the past are still on our list for possible new features.

All the codes are developed by Jim himself, no one else. 1.15 was a major release filled with tons of new options geared towards admin controls and the basic functionality of the board which was either missing previously or has been requested quite a bit from customers. our next version, slated to be released sometime this summer, will offer some new stuff geared towards the members of a forum. as Jim has stated, we still have some of your past suggestions on our "to-do" list

My Site is currently offline. We were using the board at http://www.petersburgvibe.com and doing nicely, but the site owner wanted to change hosting companies and we've not as yet been able to put things back up.

I moved my hosting to the hosting here and it has been problem free to date and very fast. to be honest it was fine before they added the other server, but now even faster, so all good. what are you planning to do to get your site back up again asap.

Hi Will, I've decided to move here as well. WOW 2.0 isn't for me and being tied to a proprietary platform and having no choice but to have it hosted there is not good news IMHO, especially when we are experiencing problems there already. I know we were promised better servers for the new version of WOW, but we were promised other things years ago that haven't been delivered. Off the top of my head there was WOW Publish, the portal, improved map that included the world outside the USA, a bug fix for the stats display problem which I'm still geting after over two years. Probably other stuff as well that I just can't remember. My first forum was a proprietary "Dream Tools" forum and hosting package. It worked well and I had it for about 6 months before they pulled the plug on it, so everyone had to look elsewhere and we were unable to export our members DB to any other forum software. I opted for WOW and don't want to have the Dream Tools experience again if WOW goes under.

Well it is insider info but the new server system for the new wow is a reality. It is state of the art using the absolute fastest server commercially available just for the sql and another dedicated for the php. But I didn't tell you that (just kidding). I believe the new wow scenario will be a big hit, just not among a majority of the current customers. Enter Ultra. Ultra exists because of Wow, if nothing else we should be thankful for that. I have been slowly but surely chopping away at the old wow problems and bugs and will continue to do so, things like the array problem with php5 and user links off, not being able to manage attachments in custom profile fields, redirects to the main page instead of topic when editing, PM's showing unread when they have been, I could find a half dozen more I have forgotten about. I plan on continuing and wow customers that switch to Ultra will have a voice in bug fixes as they have. I was stricken when Ford canceled the Maverick, but fusions are a lot better.

Well that's good news Jim. But it wouldn't be enough to convince me to stay with the current WOW setup. Apart from server speed, there are many issues that need addressing and people will only put up with so much before jumping ship.

I too plan to jump ship also. I havent been with them for long, and my forum is not huge, but I have 4 to 7 down times a day in the last week alone. I am excited about the thought of having a forum that stays up and doesn't take 2 minutes to load a post.

I am excited about the thought of having a forum that stays up and doesn't take 2 minutes to load a post. It's not the forum software to blame (WOW is very stable), it's the servers. That's easily solved by moving server. 4 to 7 times down per day is a lot and it won't get better as a forum gets bigger and needs more server space. To be fair, Aycan always said that hosting wasn't his core business. But I wonder why offer it at all unless it's bug-free? Either way, the new WOW 2 sounds cool. Like others here, I've taken part in the beta testing, but sadly it isn't for me at this time.
