Jim, I haven't because franlky I don't see a reason to (unless one has been really lax about regular updating). There are, from everything I've read, NO major improvements and only four minor ones: Network Access Protection compatibility. Announced years ago, this feature allows Windows XP machines to interact with the NAP feature in Windows Server 2008. This functionality is built into the RTM version of Windows Vista as well. Product Key-less install option. As with Windows Vista, new XP with SP3 installs can proceed without entering a product key during Setup. Kernel Mode Cryptographics Module. A new kernel module that "encapsulates several different cryptographic algorithms," according to Microsoft. "Black hole" router detection algorithm. XP gains the ability to ignore network routers that incorrectly drop certain kinds of network packets. This, too, is a feature of Windows Vista. Others may disagree, but that's not really enough to convince me it's worth the time and effort. Just MHO of course.

As much of a geek that I am I really don't have any problem with vista. It's different, we knew that way before it was released. I won't buy it, but if it is on something I'll use it.

My husband was of the same opinion as javal that if you had regularly updated XP then there was no great benefit. As it saved me reading all about it, I took his word for it (for once lol). I also saw in my computer magazine that it had caused problems for some people, but can't remember now what they were. At least you bit the bullet and bought Vista Bouttime. I bought a new computer earlier this year but had them install XP for me as it was being custom built locally. So many people had problems with their programs (especially Paint Shop Pro) when they went to Vista that I chickened out. It seem you either get on with Vista or you loathe it.

We beta tested Longhorn which is now "Vista" and we found many problems with it in the development stage. After we got the final version to test, we ran it for 29 days and did a DOD clean on the harddrive to get rid of it. Like windows ME, I think we will stick with win XP until the next operating system. We are starting to run more linux computers and have ordered two macs. I am about done with PC's after 26 years.

I have actually been downsizing. I rarely use my XP desktop anymore, and my laptop came with Vista. I am ok with it pre-installed. The Linux server is shut down. The wife's machine is an XP desktop, and the father-in-law has 2 computers as well. No really...that IS downsized LOL!!!

Oh gee ya'll are just getting started. We have 3 linux, 11 windows XP, 1 windows ME, and a windows 2003 server. Not to mention we still have our first windows 95 and windows 3.1 as well as an old 1983 IBM with a 40 mb harddrive. Come on Di give Jim an extra bedroom he can dedicate it as a computer room....lol We have our smallest bedroom 12 x 16 as a computer room/office. Can someone say "hobby run amok"?
