i agree with you ... time for them to hit the road...

but im TRYING to be fair about this...

here is what ive done...

i created a user group called 'Non Active'

and in this group they can NOT see the main board or PM they have NO privilages to the main board at ALL !

then i created a forum called Non Active...

and the only ones that can see this forum is the person in this user group and the Admin Team...

this gives them a chance to talk thru IF THEY even want to talk thru the problem..

if they have not responed in this forum in 30 days 'POOF' they are history !!! and to never return to my board...

i think this is more then fair ... doncha ???

We have our rules and stick with them. We try to be fair and politely remind people if they step out of line about the rules. Either they normally accept or clear off. I agree with Di, I think it is time to say goodbye to that member.

Sissie I must have been replying at the same time as you. I think that is a good idea and very fair indeed.

i think its a very fair idea, sissie. I actually like it!

However, how many chances do you give people? What if they agree to play nice and for several months, they do. Then its back to the same old thing. Then you toss them in that group again, giving them another chance.

Personally, I dont know the reason why that particular person has decided to stick around and NOT post. I guess Im just suspicious in nature. Is another person copying and pasting things to this person that you might not know about?

IF and ONLY if they were to be let back on the board their activity would have to start RIGHT AWAY...if not  they are poofed for good !!!

IF they were let back on the boards and started crap again they would be banned for good with NO possible return... one trip to Non Active is all you get!!

i do not believe this person would copy and paste.. and try to do anything... we have to much on her that she has posted about herself and problems... so we would have the amo to fire back..NOT that we would but just to know we have our butts covered as well...

i personally think this person will walk away and be bitter at Admin as she already is ...... but thats ok...

yes i think we were posting at the same time...

thank you for reassuring me that im being fair ... this means alot...

we have always tried so hard at TBS to be fair.. our rules are short and sweet and to the point...

alot of rules tends to confuse people...

but if you play nice there will NOT be a problem..

and also if there is a poster out there that you just cant agree with or what ever take the high road and dont reply... you dont need to hurt people... we hurt enough being in the situations we are in ...

I try not to get too involved with members that break the rules. They get a warning from me as a last resort as I believe everyone deserves a second chance. If they ignore the warning they get moved to a "Temporarily Suspended" group for a while, either that or just banned. I've only had to ban a couple of people and a ban is permanent in my view. A puppy is not just for Christmas and all that. ;-)

Twice in three years is very good, although I know it can ruin your day (or several days) having to deal with it.

you are so right... it really hurts to have to deal with things like this... its the last thing i want to do ..but sometimes we have to put those 'Admin' hats on and do our job to keep peace...

i know its not Christmas ..but this is as close as i could come to a smilie on how i feel

< ---------off with the Admin hat...

i dont like it very well... it just doesnt fit right...

That's a great smilie.

The most recent problem with two members having a go at one another we managed to fix without banning anyone, but I must admit I had that sick to the stomach feeling for the few days it was going on. I thought that pushing almost 50 YO would make me immune to all that, but I'm afraid not and it was almost enough to drive me to drink.

yes i know that sick feeling and being sleepless as well...

well being almost 50 years old has nothing to do with it...im gonna be 52 in a few days and age has nothing to do with being immuned to anything...

but life goes on and you have to think of the members of your board...

even tho as owners/admin we have heavy hearts from time to time...

Interesting thread, since all of us know being an admin is hard work. I rarely give "warnings". The exception is brand-new members who I sometimes will direct to my "What's Not Allowed" thread. If they're not brand-new, and break one of them - they're gone. My list BTW reads as follows:

There are very few "rules" for this board. We intend to keep it that way as much as possible. We have sections for Civil War talk and places for other stuff. We want this to be a little more than a "Civil War Discussion Board" - we'd like it to be more like a community center. Having said that, here are some things we don't allow, including:

  • We will not tolerate personal attacks on other members. There's a big difference between disagreeing with someone's view and attacking them on a personal level.

  • No racist remarks - self-explanatory.

  • No vile cursing. An occasional "damn" will be over-looked, stronger stuff won't.

  • Never talk about abortion. Never refer to abortion. If you can't make your point without doing so, don't make the point. This is the one subject which we've seen that never ends in a civil manner.

  • Try hard not to hijack threads. Tough to judge sometimes, I understand. If you start straying, the moderator will say so.

  • Do not abuse PM's by harrassing other members. If we get complaints, we'll shut down the PM system.

  • Never debate these rules. They're not up for debate. Questions/concerns can be PM'd to me or e-mailed to me.
That's about it. If more come up in the future, we'll add them, but I doubt they will.

A different perspective...

Here's what I don't get - why you think there is an issue. The person has not posted in four months - has not caused any issues - so where's the problem? I know a lot of people who go underground like that for whatever reason but they still like to keep up with the community- so they just read. Heck, I do that. :(

Maybe they realized they blew it big time and are ashamed or maybe they realized that it's just an internet forum and it should not get one so tore up they lose it. Who knows? But until they screw up or break the rules again - my vote is to leave it be.
;) JMHO.

Since my board is private it is a full blown riot fest. Folks bicker - they have to work it out. They are self moderated. They can cuss and scream and cry and talk dirt - whatever they want. It's amazing to me how well it has all gone.

I do not interfere unless they talk bad about Brad Pitt.
