Hi KJ,

Whatever it is, I missed it too. What's a Nike? What are they actually selling? Tickets to a basketball game? And why is it an "Olympic" commercial? I didn't see the Olympics mentioned anywhere.

An advertisement isn't much good if they don't actually tell you what they are selling! :?

Martin.

I can hardly believe you don't know Nike Martin but just in case they are a huge manufacturer of sporting wear. The Coca Cola of sports wear. Like you I thought the advert pointless.

they are a multi billion dollar multi national company. easily the largest sports shoes, clothing, and athletic gear in the world. It is just a really good commercial. the mix of the classic song version with the great sports images. Really awesome and memorable. the commercial is getting a lot of exposure because it is so well done.

this one is fantastic also - another mix of music, sports and Olympic images. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nd5VEHEaVWs

I think thats what was so good about the commercial above. theyre not blatantly throwing Nike shoes in your face.

"Just Do it" is Nike's renown trademark phrase

So it's an advertisement for shoes? :?

I've never purchased any sports wear in my life, and having just turned 60 I don't think that situation is likely to change any time soon!

One planet. Several worlds.

Martin.

I have been boycotting China for years and am boycotting ALL things Olympics due to China and what they have done and are continuing to do to Tibet and her people...So I have to say I think it obscene the money that is being generated for a country that is killing a whole culture to get them to assimilate.

China is the Borg and I will not support anything they are involved in.

I tend to avoid adverts if possible.  Half of them I have no idea what they are advertising anyway!

Yesterday I was sitting in a line of traffic and there were bill boards on my side of the road.  One advert caught my eye as it looked so odd.  I thought at first it was in a foreign language.  Eventually I realised it was advertising an Audi car.  When I commented on it to my husband he said,  what other things were advertised as well.  Do you know, I couldn't name one, so the Audi advert worked after all   LOL.

Mind you if I had not been stuck I traffic I doubt I would have noticed any of them.

Martin.

Even in this dark and isolated part of the world, we know what Nike is. It's the expensive pair of trainers that children try to get their parents to buy for them, instead of the cheaper and better value for mony pair in the non-Nike shop. ;)

I agree it's a waste of money, but they did it very well. Mind you, Nike stuff is made in China where the workforce is cheap. Most of the trainers cost about $14 to produce there and cost us up to $200 in the shops here, so it's easy to understand why Nike have money to burn on that advertisement. ;)

I do not write that as flippant. I am dead serious but this board is not the venue to go into something heavy that isn't technical. So, alas, we will never have a meaningful conversation, Steve. What a bummer...

I will NEVER assimilate.

Never bought any, can't afford it. My tennis shoes cost about 10 bucks and I buy a pair every two years.
